📍 So much more to explore ...
a living map with approximate painting locations, from the last 20 years or so
This Google map represents some of my landscape painting locations from over the last 20 years or so.
I created the map on January 3, 2009.
And then promptly forgot about it.
Or, at least forgot where to find it. I honestly thought Google had discontinued their custom mapping services but recently discovered that I was wrong and the map is still available.
It’s a "living map," in that it is currently being updated, and hopefully Google will leave it that way so that it can continue to be updated into the future. Or, by posting the map here and on my website, maybe I’ll remember where to find it? Will see.
So many places yet to explore.
The open space on the map inspires me, thinking of how much fun (and work) it’ll be to fill in the gaps and return to some favourite locations too.
At one time, each location linked to my website with the corresponding paintings from that area. But over time, with moving around website hosts and the like, the links broke. So if you click on one of the links (at this point) it won’t take you to a specific painting and you might get a 404 (page not found) instead on my current website.
Hoping to fix that going forward.
And speaking of maps, here’s a link to the May 2022 podcast featuring Joy Laking talking about her life and book “The Painted Province” (Pottersfield, 2020).
Her wonderful book is still in my glove compartment, hoping to get her autograph in it.
And maybe discover a new place to paint along the way.

This text originally stated that I created the map about seven yers ago, I corrected the text - since it was created closer to 12 or 13 years ago (according to the handy Google map time stamp.
What a great idea Mary Ann! You really get around in your plein air excursions. Wishing you lots of fun explorations, as you add many new additions to your map! xx
